Mumbai: BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha on Wednesday questioned the arrest and slapping of sedition charges on Jawaharlal Nehru University president Kanhaiya Kumar by Delhi Police.
The senior BJP leader tweeted today, "Have heard transcript of speech of Kanhaiya, our Bihar boy president of JNUSU. He has said nothing anti national or against constitution."
Shatrughan, who posted a series of tweets, also wished for the speedy release of the JNU student union president. "Hope wish and pray that he's release soon, sooner the better..."
"JNU is going through a crisis for reasons best known to politicians. It is an institution of international repute, enviable record &history," Shatrughan said in another tweet.
Kanhaiya Kumar, a second year PhD scholar at JNU, was arrested on February 12 by Delhi Police, and was slapped with sedition charges after he delivered a fiery speech at the campus the evening before February 11.
Kanhaiya, whose police custody ends today, will be produced before the Delhi High Court today.
