Gujarat VHP leader was on Dawood Ibrahim's hit list post 2002 riots: Report

New Delhi: After assassinating two BJP leaders in Gujarat, fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim wanted to kill south Gujarat's VHP general secretary Viral Desai, report claimed on Wednesday.

Quoting chargesheet filed by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the double murder of BJP leaders in Bharuch, an Economic Times report stated that after BJP leader Shirish Bengali and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha's Bharuch general secretary Pragnesh Mistry were shot dead on November 2 last year, Desai was on the hit list of the 'D-gang'

"Arrested accused Mohammad Altaf had searched for Desai on Google , Facebook and YouTube ," ET quoted excerpts from the chargesheet filed in the first week of this month.

The probe had revealed that the contract for killing the BJP leaders was allegedly given by absconding Javed Chikna, an accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, apparently to avenge riots in Mumbai during 1993 and in Gujarat during 2002.

In the chargesheet, the agency has held Jahid Mia, a native of Bharuch, responsible for killing the two BJP leaders in coordination with Dawood's aide Javed Chikna.

Also, three days after the killings, Rs 5 lakh was paid on the instructions of Chikna through the Dubai hawala route.
