New Delhi: The 22-year-old man who allegedly shot himself at Rajiv Chowk Metro station has been formally arrested by Delhi Police today.
The accused, identified as Shibesh Adhikari, is suspected to be mentally unstable and has given inconsistent details about the sequence of events, a senior police official said.
A police team led by the Station House Officer(SHO) of East Delhi's Yamuna Bank police station has been sent to his native village in Uttar Pradesh to collect more information, which is crucial to the probe, according to the official.
The man claimed that he accidentally shot himself as he was on his way to "assassinate" a person who was about to "blow up" Delhi Metro.
According to police, Sridesh boarded a train from Chandni Chowk station (on Yellow Line) and was on his way to Noida (on Blue Line). While changing train at Rajiv Chowk, he went to a secluded corner and allegedly tried to shoot himself on his head but he missed the target and the bullet grazed past his shoulder.
After the incident, he was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital and was headed for a surgery. He was discharged last evening, following which he was formally arrested today, the officer added.
