Ahmedabad: Indian Navy along with the officials of Coast Guard, during a joint operation, on Monday detained three boats between the Jakhau and Porbandar ports here, on charges of suspected smuggling. One of them is allegedly a Pakistani boat.

According to media reports, out of the three boats, two were released after detailed investigation. But, the third one – which has been identified carrying eight suspected smugglers, belonging to Pakistan has been kept on hold.

During the operation, the security officials unearthed 140 kilograms of narcotics, suspected to be heroin and worth up to Rs 600 crore in the international markets, and half-a-dozen satellite phones from the Pakistani boat, as per reports.

The Coast Guard is now bringing the detained Pakistani boat towards Porbandar port and it likely to reach by tomorrow morning.

However, according to initial reports, a terror link has been ruled out.

The incident comes just months after a Pakistani fishing boat said to be carrying explosives was intercepted by the Indian Coast Guard before it exploded and caught fire and sunk with four crew members on board.

The incident had occurred on the intervening night of December 31, 2014, and January 1 some 365-km off the Porbander coast after a hot pursuit by the Coast Guard.
