Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted the nation on the occasion of Diwali and hoped "the lamp of prosperity be lit among the poor".

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted the nation on the occasion of Diwali and hoped "the lamp of prosperity be lit among the poor".

In a message posted on Facebook and Twitter, Modi said: "Wishing all of you a very Happy Diwali. May our lives be illuminated with joy and peace. May the lamp of prosperity be lit among the poor."

PM is visiting Siachen to spend some time with soldiers on Diwali and convey the message there that every Indian stands shoulder-to- shoulder with them.

He is going to Siachen from where he will be travelling to Srinagar to spend time with the flood-affected people on the festival of lights.
