Robert Vadra decries 'intimidation' attempts over Yoga

Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, on Tuesday decried "intimidation" attempts by BJP and some of its leaders for performing Yoga, an exercise regimen which he does not see tilted towards any particular communal ideology.

New Delhi: Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, on Tuesday decried "intimidation" attempts by BJP and some of its leaders for performing Yoga, an exercise regimen which he does not see tilted towards any particular communal ideology.

"Never been very keen on Yoga as an exercise regimen, but not averse to learn any form," he said.

"Surely never looked at it as a method leaning towards any particular communal ideology. But the ruling party is using it and their leaders comments are making the rest of the country feel not worthy if they do not participate in their forms of intimidation," Vadra said in a statement.

He said this was "unacceptable to me and I'm quite certain, to all citizen of our democratic country, who have an equal right to their individual beliefs."

His comments came amidst a controversy over the Yoga day to be celebrated on June 21 as declared by the United Nations.
