Sharad Yadav must apologise for his remarks on women: Hema Malini

BJP MP Hema Malini on Tuesday demanded an apology from JD(U) President Sharad Yadav for his "derogatory" remarks on women.

Mathura: BJP MP Hema Malini on Tuesday demanded an apology from JD(U) President Sharad Yadav for his "derogatory" remarks on women.

"Sharad Yadav is a senior leader and derogatory remarks about women are not expected from him. He must apologise to women," she said here.

Yadav was at the centre of a controversy last week over his comments on south Indian women.

"The body of women from south is as good as beautiful they are. They (women) in our region are not that good as those (in south) know dancing," Yadav had said in Rajya Sabha during a debate on insurance bill.

In the Rajya Sabha yesterday, Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani appealed to Yadav not to bring in issues like colour of women but the JD-U leader retorted in a tone of derision, saying "who are you?".

"There has been a long struggle against discrimination based on colour... I am ready to participate in a debate any time," Yadav had said.

The MP from Mathura said she supports the 'Yamuna

Muktikaran Yatra' undertaken by several spiritual leaders and activists.

"Owing to pollution, Brijwasis living in the embankment area are falling ill. I support the padyatra and have requested Chief Minister of Haryana to release Yamuna water from Hathini Kund," she said.

Malini said that she is planning to start 'Brij Mahotsava' next month.

"The two-day festival would highlight various sports of Lord Krishna. Noted figures from Bolly wood are likely to present their program," she said.

She also inaugurated a medicine shop here earlier today which would provide medicines to people at cheaper rates.

"Novel chemist and druggist shop opened today for providing cheap medicines to pilgrims as well as Brijwasis is commendable," she said.
