Srinagar: A counter-insurgency trooper posted in Kashmir committed suicide by shooting himself on Friday.

The unidentified trooper in the Rashtriya Rifles camp in Shar Shali (Khrew) village of Pulwama district, 20 km from here, shot himself with his service rifle inside the camp.
Police have registered an FIR in the incident, a senior police officer said.

Fratricidal shootouts and suicides by security men have been occurring in Jammu and Kashmir.

Hostile conditions, long periods of separation from family and lack of recreational facilities have been identified as some of the reasons for this by counsellors employed by different security force organisations.
In some cases, refusal of leave by seniors has also been cited as a reason.
