Karnataka's Special Representative backs 'spendthrift' Governor

Karnataka's Special Representative CS Nadagouda has backed State Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, saying that spending money on renovating the Raj Bhavan doesn't amount to personal expenditure.

New Delhi: Karnataka's Special Representative CS Nadagouda has backed State Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, saying that spending money on renovating the Raj Bhavan doesn't amount to personal expenditure.

"Raj Bhavan as a matter of fact and the Governor is a constitutional head of the state and spending money on the Raj Bhavan doesn't amount to spending on personal expenditures. So, it is for an institution which has been spent," Nadagouda told ANI.

"I don't think this should be an issue and this should be ignored. It is not a major issue at all. The sanction has been by the Karnataka Government and there should not be any controversy," he added.

An RTI query has reportedly revealed that Vala's office had claimed an eight-figure amount for the renovation of the Raj Bhavan.

A further amount of around Rs. 10 lakhs was allegedly spent on chartered flights.
