Court lifts ban from Salman Khan’s mega budget ‘Veer’

Jaipur, Feb 20: Salman Khan can finally take a breather as the weeklong ban from his mega bucks project ‘Veer’ has been lifted by the Rajasthan High Court. The cast and crew of the film will now resume shooting at the historical Amber Fort from Friday. Nevertheless the respite comes with a big price tag. The producers of the film have been ordered to make an ex gratia payment of Rs 20 lakh as compensation for the unit`s overstay at the fort, for creating the set before it got a licence to do it and for the wall collapse which resulted in 16 onlookers getting injured. Besides lifting the ban from the movie, the court also lifted its ban on media reporting the proceedings of the case. The judges ruled out the order after advocate Abhinav Sharma, stated that the court did not have the authority to stop the common man from knowing what was happening in the courtroom. The bench however decided to put fine on the film’s unit for overstay in the fort and shooting without permission. The court also found that a fort wall collapsed due to overcrowding at the palace. Further due to the stampede that followed, many sustained injuries. The court has also directed the producer to deposit the amount with the state authorities and further directed that the compensation to the injured persons shall be determined by the state government. The court has now directed the state to recover the entire licence fee from the day when the set was put up on the premises by the producer, and it also instructed that the licence fee to be recovered for the period must be uniform for all days.
