`The Reluctant Fundamentalist` not about 9/11: Mira Nair

Indian-American director Mira Nair says her latest film `The Reluctant Fundamentalist` is not about 9/11.

New Delhi: Indian-American director Mira Nair says her latest film `The Reluctant Fundamentalist` is not about 9/11 but a coming-of-age story of a young man struggling to find his identity in America post the terror attacks.
The film, Mira says, is also her first attempt at a thriller. She is happy to finally bring the film to Indian audiences after travelling with it around the globe.
"The film is essentially not a 9/11 movie but a coming-of-age story of a young man who finds out who he really is in a polarising universe. I made the film because I lamented that post 9/11, there has been a real lack of conversation between America and the rest of the world. It is my attempt to create a bridge and dialogue between the two sides," Mira said here. The film stars British-Pakistani actor Riz Ahmed as Changez. Hollywood stars like Kate Hudson, Liev Schreiber and Kiefer Sutherland play key roles in the movie besides Indian actors -- Shabana Azmi and Om Puri. Mira, 55, is happy to have brought together talent from different parts of the world to tell the story of her movie. "I think a film like this has not been made before therefore not seen before. Also, there is no other film that has a brown person in the lead and supported by A-listers from both Bollywood and Hollywood. I have also introduced a lot of talent from Pakistan," the director said. `The Reluctant Fundamentalist`, based on Pakistani author Mohsin Hamid`s book of the same name, is being released in India by PVR on May 17. It will also hit the screens in Pakistan on the same day. PTI
