New Delhi, Jan 26: Expressing satisfaction over the success achieved in extradition and deportation of criminals, CBI director P C Sharma has asked all countries to give legal sanctity to the red corner notices of Interpol to make them effective.
Addressing a meeting of liaison officers of Interpol from
different countries yesterday, Sharma said a committee of
countries worst affected by terrorism should be formed to
develop expertise and share it with other nations to tackle
the problem.

"Countries like US, Japan and Russia have developed
technologies to tackle techo-savvy criminals. These
technologies should be shared with other nations," he said,
adding steps should be taken to restrict movement of
trans-national criminals.

The CBI director said there should be informal ways of
consultation and mutual cooperation besides conventional ways
of sending letters, diplomatic channels and Interpol
notices for faster deportation or extradition of criminals.

The CBI director called upon participating nations to
find ways for simplification of extradition laws saying the
existing laws and procedures were too cumbersome and complex.

Earlier, initiating the discussions, joint director
(policy) of CBI Ashwani Kumar said India was maintaining a
data bank of criminals which has information on about 10,000
wanted criminals, who were subject matter of Interpol notices.
