Court orders medical examination of hijacking accused

A Patiala Court on Wednesday ordered immediate medical examination of the prime accused in the IC 814 hijacking case, Adbul Latif, who complained that the jail authorities had assaulted him.

District and sessions judge S N Aggarwal, who is hearing the hijacking case, ordered that Latif be examined at a local hospital immediately and the report submitted to him on Thursday.

Latif moved an application in the court alleging that authorities in the central jail, where is lodged now, had beaten him up.

Meanwhile, the court completed the cross examination of the prime witness, chief pilot of the hijacked Indian Airlines flight Devi Saran, and adjourned the case till March 26.

The IA flight from Kathmandu to New Delhi was hijacked on December 24, 1999 and taken to Kandahar in Afghanistan.
