Govt declares one-day national mourning

Government today declared a one-day national mourning in view of the death of Shehnai maestro Bismillah Khan.

New Delhi, Aug 21: Government today declared a
one-day national mourning in view of the death of Shehnai
maestro Bismillah Khan.

Home Ministry officials said Khan would be given a state
funeral.

Flags would be flown at half mast in all the government
buildings as part of the mourning.

Khan, one of India`s most celebrated classical musicians,
who had been ailing for quite some time, died of cardiac
arrest at the Heritage Hospital in Varanasi in the wee hours
today.

Uttar Pradesh government today
declared a one-day mourning on the death of Shehnai maestro
Ustad Bismillah Khan and ordered closure of all government
schools, colleges and offices, officials said here.

Flags will be flown at half mast in all government
offices, they said adding that Governor T V Rajeshwar and
Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav will be visiting Varanasi
to pay their homage to the departed icon.

In a condolence message both termed Khan`s death as a
great loss to the country.
