Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 23: Indian Union Muslim League General Secretary E Ahmed, MP, today asked Prime Minister A B Vajpayee to restrain Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi from "creating communal hatred" through "anti-minority speeches" during his "gaurav yatra," if necessary by invoking penal provisions.

Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 23: Indian Union Muslim
League General Secretary E Ahmed, MP, today asked Prime
Minister A B Vajpayee to restrain Gujarat Chief Minister
Narendra Modi from "creating communal hatred" through
"anti-minority speeches" during his "gaurav yatra," if
necessary by invoking penal provisions.

"Modi should be stopped from indulging in anti-minority
campaign. If necessary, the provisions in the Indian Penal
Code meant to check spread of communal hatred should be
invoked," Ahmed told reporters here.

"Vajpayee has time and again assured the people of the
country and the international community that violence like in
Gujarat will not happen again. His reluctance to restrain Modi
even after the tapes of his speeches becoming public ran
contrary to this assurance," the league leader said.

"Vajpayee, who eloquently condemned torture of minorities
while touring abroad, is hesitant to deplore the atrocities
on Muslims in Gujarat. This is a matter of grave concern," he
added.

Reiterating the demand for the dismissal of the Modi
government, the league leader said all secular forces should
forge hand against the BJP in the state.

Ahmed said he did not see anything wrong in a former RSS
leader like Shankar Sinh Waghela leading the Congress in
Gujarat since he had abandoned the Sangh ideology.
