Lt. Gen K K Khanna is new IMA chief

Dehra Dun, Nov 30: Lt Gen K K Khanna today took over as the commandant of the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA) here.

Dehra Dun, Nov 30: Lt Gen K K Khanna today took over as the commandant of the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA) here.
He took the charge of IMA chief from Lt. Gen G S Negi who retired today after serving the army for nearly four decades, a release from the academy said.

Lt. Gen Khanna was commissioned on 11 June 1967 into the 16th battalion of the JAT regiment.

During his illustrious career spanning nearly 37 years, Lt Gen Khanna became Major General staff of Northern Command in 2002.

During the first seven years of his service, he served in Manipur and Mizoram combating militants in the northeast. He subsequently was given the challenging task of raising 10 sector Rashtriya Rifles which he commanded from August' 94 to May' 96.

He was awarded Ati Vashisht Seva medal for commanding 10 sector Rashtriya Rifles with distinction.

As general officer commanding he headed the 14 infantry division, which was deployed during Operation Parakram.

He was injured in a terrorist encounter in July 2003. On februray 2004,he was promoted as chief of staff, HQ Northern Command.
