The Indian High Commission in London has informed the Mumbai police that no court in United Kingdom had awarded compensation or damages to the music composer Nadeem Akhtar Saifee in regard to his discharge from the extradition proceedings launched by Indian government for his alleged complicity in Gulshan Kumar murder case.

Nadeem and his lawyer in India had recently announced that the music composer had been awarded Rs 6.7 crore as damages and the government of India would have to bear it.

In a letter to Mumbai police, Indian High Commissioner has said Nadeem had not been awarded compensation or damages. The government would not have to compensate him, he clarified.

As Nadeem had not availed of the legal aid in UK and hired a counsel to defend him, the court has awarded him costs of litigation in accordance with the practice in Great Britain.

The quantum of costs will be decided by taxation officer in UK, the Commission said in the letter.

He further said that there is no practice of reimbursement of costs toward the execution of extradition request. No communication for reimbursement of any compensation or cost had been made to the government by the British government in connection with extradition proceedings, he said.
