Pakistan arrests 25 Indian fishermen

India and Pakistan detain hundreds of fishermen every year on charges of violating the maritime boundary.

Islamabad: Twenty Indian fishermen have been arrested and four boats seized for allegedly intruding into Pakistani waters, an official statement said on Thursday.

The fishermen were apprehended by the Maritime Security Agency in the early hours yesterday.

The fishermen were arrested for their alleged "continuous intrusion of Pakistani waters", officials claimed.

The fishermen were handed over to police in Karachi for "necessary action", the officials said.

The two countries have taken steps in recent months to expedite the release of fishermen who have completed their jail terms.
