New Delhi, May 11: A parliamentary committee has asked the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) to evolve a mechanism to evaluate the results of Counselling, Retraining and Redeployment (CRR) scheme meant for employees of Central public sector enterprises.
"A suitable mechanism for appraisal of CRR scheme should
be evolved by DPE so as to evaluate the results and assess the
desired impact of the scheme," said the department-related
parliamentary standing committee on industry in its 109th
report tabled in Parliament.
The committee, headed by Rajya Sabha member P C Alexander, found that there had been constant rise in plan allocation for CRR schemes over the years. The scheme received Rs 8.9 crore in 2002-03 as against Rs 6.75 crore in 2001-02. The amount was increased to Rs nine crore for 2003-04.
The committee also recommended a higher allocation to
seven North-Eastern states and Sikkim from current Rs one
crore meant to be extended under the scheme, considering the
vast area to be covered.
The scheme has covered so far 20,000 employees under its
training programme, it said, noting "this lukewarm approach
needs to be put into the right perspective".
It also favoured an early decision on the part of DPE to
include those who opt for VRS to be covered by the centrally
sponsored scheme.
