PMO reviews progress of flagship programmes

The Prime Minister`s Office (PMO) today reviewed the progress of 18 flagship programmes and key projects including NREGA and Bharat Nirman and gave directions for their expeditious implementation.

New Delhi: The Prime Minister`s Office (PMO)
today reviewed the progress of 18 flagship programmes and key
projects including NREGA and Bharat Nirman and gave directions
for their expeditious implementation.

T K A Nair, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister,
issued directions about each project so as to expeditiously
implement them by the respective ministries in consultation
with the state governments.

"The Delivery Monitoring Unit (DMU) in the PMO took stock
of the progress, bottlenecks and the problems in the
implementation of these programmes till the end of 2009," PMO
sources said.

Government has set up a monitoring mechanism in the PMO
to oversee various prestigious flagship programmes and ensure
prompt output and transparency in their functioning.

Key projects like National Rural Employment Guarantee
Act, National Rural Health Mission, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan,
Bharat Nirman, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal
Mission, Rajiv Awas Yojana, Multi-Sectoral District Plans for
Minority Concentration Districts came up for close scrutiny of
the Unit.

Progress in strengthening of public accountability like
Right to Information, Public Data Policy, annual reports on
five identified topics, setting up Independent Evaluation
Office, Prime Minister`s Reconstruction Plan for Jammu and
Kashmir was also monitored closely.
