Pune, Dec 20: A local court today extended till
January 03, the magisterial custody of former Mumbai police
commissioner R S Sharma arrested in connection with the
multi-crore fake stamp paper scam.
Judicial magistrate, first class, M N Bondre extended the
MCR when Sharma was produced after the expiry of his earlier
magisterial custody remand.
The special investigation team (SIT) had arrested Sharma
on December 01 on charges of allegedly shielding the prime
accused Abdul Karim Telgi, dereliction of duty and failure to
maintain absolute integrity in the discharge of his duties and
other charges.
He is the first former police commissioner in Maharashtra
to be arrested under a stringent law of Maharashtra Control of
Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for allegedly developing links
with an organised crime syndicate.
Meanwhile, a special court had yesterday deferred his
bail plea to December 22.
