Patna, Mar 09: The Rashtriya Janata Dal today termed as "dangerous" the Centre allowing foreign direct investment in electronic and print media and said that foreign investors would pay little importance in promoting the socio-cultural activities of the country.
"FDI in electronic and print media is a wrong step. It is meant to tame the news houses in giving a positive and true picture of social, political and cultural activities," RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav said addressing a function organised by the Bihar Working Journalist Union (BWJU) here.
The foreign investors would give priority to their commercial interest and pay little care for promoting the socio-cultural activities of the country, he said.

Yadav criticised some news houses introducing Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS), contract system and some not implementing the Manisana Wage Board award.

"RJD will support the scribes' agitation against injustice," he said.

The RJD chief said that he would strongly take up with the Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi the matter of reintroduction of payment of Rs 1,000 per month as pension to the retired journalists in the state introduced by him when he was the chief minister.

He also promised Rs 25 lakh from his MP quota for the construction of the BWJU building.
