Chennai, June 27: The BJP today rejected the VHP's
demand that the party come out of the NDA and the government,
if it was unable to bring a legislation to build a Ram temple
at the disputed site at Ayodhya.

The BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu told a press
conference here today that the VHP's demand was totally
unacceptable to the party.

Though the party stood for a temple for lord Ram at his
birth place at Ayodhya, the VHP's demand for a legislation for
that was not possible, he said.

He said the NDA government was governed by the agenda for
national governance and the BJP would not thrust its ideas on
its coalition partners. "We are running a coalition and
believe in coalition dharma", he said.

He said he had conveyed this to the RSS leaders, whom he
met recently.

Welcoming the initiative taken by the seer of the Kanchi
Mutt, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi for a solution to the Ayodhya
tangle, he said the centre would intervene at an appropriate
time. It would involve everybody, including theVHP , in the
talks for a solution to the issue, he said.

Describing reports that the BJP was in favour of
advancing the Lok Sabha polls as 'speculative', he said the
party wanted the polls to be held as per the schedule next
year.
