New Delhi, May 05: Trident distribution and recent remarks creating a "fear psychosis" among the minorities
dominated the meeting between the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) and VHP top brass here today in which Sangh leaders gave an assurance that they will not make any remarks or undertake any activity which will hurt the minorities.

However, the leaders expressed their concern over some "irritants" which, they said, should be removed to achieve the goal of communal harmony in the country.

"The leaders have assured us that they will not make any statement or undertake any such activity which will be anti-minority. They have also asserted that they were not against any particular minority," NCM chairman Tarlochan Singh told reporters after a nearly two-hour meeting. Firebrand VHP leader Praveen Togadia was among those who attended the meet.

Asked about the "irritants" mentioned by the VHP leaders, Singh said, "They demanded that whenever there was any terrorist attack, including that in Jammu and Kashmir, the minority community leaders should condemn it in the strongest possible manner. They have also expressed concern over usage of some words and inclusion of some alleged anti-India civilisation remarks in the syllabus of madrasas."

Agreeing with the VHP leaders, Singh said that the NCM will look into the syllabus of the madrasas and ensure removal of any such remarks. NCM vice-chairman m s Usmani will look into the matter, Singh said.

Besides protecting the rights of the minorities, the NCM also has to ensure that there was communal harmony for which removal of "fear psychosis" from the minds of minorities was required, Singh told the meeting.
