Relief efforts underway in full-swing in quake-hit Manipur

Imphal: Rescue and relief efforts in quake-hit Manipur continued in full swing on Thursday with several teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) working relentlessly to bring the life back to normal.

Two teams of the NDRF are working in Tamenglong and Imphal which were most affected by Monday`s tremors.State Disaster Response Force, Manipur Police, paramilitary forces and voluntary organizations are also helping in the relief operations.

According to reports, Manipur Chief Minister Okaram Ibobi Singh had earlier announced ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh each to the family of the deceased.

At least eight persons were killed and over 100 others injured after a 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck the India-Myanmar border at around 4:30 am on Monday, causing damage to many buildings and spreading panic among the people.
