Rajnath Singh greeted with protest at Anandpur Sahib

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh was on Friday greeted with slogans of 'Rajnath Singh Go back' and 'Stop discrimination against Sikhs', while addressing the 350th foundation day of Sri Anandpur Sahib.

Sri Anandpur Sahib: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh was on Friday greeted with slogans of 'Rajnath Singh Go back' and 'Stop discrimination against Sikhs', while addressing the 350th foundation day of Sri Anandpur Sahib.

The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) activists shouted slogans against the Union Minister as soon as the leader stood up to address the function marking the 350th foundation day celebrations of this holy city.

The function was disrupted for a while and police rounded up about 35 persons while many others went out raising the slogans.

The protesters demanded the release of Sikh prisoners lodged in various jails of the country, citing that they had completed their sentences.

Sensing that the situation may turn ugly, Punjab Education Minister Daljeet Singh Cheema, who was managing the stage, asked the crowd to raise 'Jaikaras' to drown the protesting slogans.

Singh, however, did not react to the slogans.

Earlier today, the Home Minister along with BJP President Amit Shah paid obeisance at Takht Kesgarh Sahib.
