Electronic gates that prevent unauthorised access in the premises have been installed in the Mysore zoo here.

Mysore: Electronic gates that prevent unauthorised access in the premises have been installed in the Mysore zoo here.

"We have installed ten electronic gates or e-gates at the entrance of the zoo, and it will be formally inaugurated as soon as possible," Mysore Zoo Director B P Ravi told PTI here.

With the new system in place, the Mysore Zoo has joined the elite league of Nandankanan Park in Odisha and Hyderabad Zoo, Ravi said.

Visitors to the zoo will no longer have to stand in queues to enter. At present, people enter the zoo after showing their tickets to checkers deployed at the entry point, he said.

The visitors have to swipe the ticket which comprises bar code before entering the zoo, Ravi said, adding, it will prevent unauthorised access, besides giving real time information on the number of visitors.

The system will keep tab on the number of adults and children entering the zoo, and also number of still cameras taken inside the zoo, Ravi said.

The electronic system set up by a private firm has cost the zoo authorities Rs 25 lakh, Ravi said.

A control room has been set up to monitor e-gate operation, he said.

The system will help maintain a transparency of revenue collection of the zoo, Ravi said.
