Kathmandu, Nov 27: A tourism consortium between Nepal and Bhutan will be established soon to promote links between private and government sector and identify markets to
develop sub-regional tourism, a Nepalese official said here today.

The consortium will also launch awareness campaigns to
popularise tourism in the two countries, marketing director of
the Nepal Tourism Board Subhas Nirula said at a two-day
conference on 'Sustainable tourism: Market, linkages and
learning'.

The conference also stressed that the two countries
should cooperate with each other to promote tourism by
learning from each other's experiences.

Speaking at the meet, joint director, Department
of Tourism, Thurji Dorji Nadik said Bhutan wants to learn from
Nepal's experiences, especially in the fields of trekking and
community tourism.

"Nepal has displayed very good example by fostering
partnership between government and private sector in tourism
sector, and we want to learn from that," he said.

"Nepal can also lean from Bhutan's experiences in
developing quality tourism," Nirula said.

Though Bhutan annually receives only 7,000 foreign
visitors excluding Indians, the kingdom's per capita tourist
income is $1,000, which is highest in South Asia.

The conference will recommend a draft to form the
consortium, which will be instrumental in promoting tourism
with the joint efforts of Nepal and Bhutan, he added.
