In a separate message, Ashraf said Pakistan had "always supported dialogue with the government of India".

Islamabad: Pakistan`s top leadership has re-affirmed its support for the people of Kashmir, saying confidence-building measures initiated with India should lead to the resolution of the dragging dispute over the region.

In messages issued on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day that is observed on February 5 every year, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf reiterated Pakistan`s political, moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people.

"On this day, I wish to reassure my Kashmiri brethren that Pakistan remains firmly committed to finding a just and peaceful solution of the Kashmir dispute," Zardari said.

In a separate message, Ashraf said Pakistan had "always supported dialogue with the government of India".

"We have initiated CBMs in good faith and hope that the CBMs would mitigate the suffering of the Kashmiri people. We also hope that the CBMs would lead to the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people," the premier said.

Zardari called for the resolution of the Kashmir issue in line with UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
