Multan, Aug 17: An explosion killed one man and wounded another while they were reportedly assembling a bomb at an Islamic seminary in Pakistan, police said on Friday.

Police were despatched to the Sahiwal district of the central Punjab province to investigate the blast at the seminary known as a madrassa. The government has begun to get tough with madrassas, seen in the West as hotbeds of Islamic militancy.

"According to reports received so far, the two men were apparently manufacturing a bomb," a police official in Punjab said.

He identified the dead man as Jamil and the injured man as Shabbir Alam.
