DoS mulls changes in satellite communications policy: Govt

The Department of Space (DOS), overseen by the Prime Minister's Office, is contemplating bringing changes in norms, guidelines and procedures for implementation of policy framework for satellite communications in India, the Parliament was informed Wednesday.

New Delhi: The Department of Space (DOS), overseen by the Prime Minister's Office, is contemplating bringing changes in norms, guidelines and procedures for implementation of policy framework for satellite communications in India, the Parliament was informed Wednesday.

"The Department of Space is contemplating to bring in changes to the Norms, Guidelines and Procedure for implementation of policy framework for satellite communication in India," said Jitendra Singh, the Minister of State in PMO, in a written reply in Lok Sabha.

The proposed amendment have been deliberated by the Space Commission and are awaiting approval of the Prime Minister as Minister in charge.

"Thereafter, they will be sent for inter-ministerial consultation before being put up to the Cabinet for approval," Singh added.
