Chennai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers staged a protest here on Friday, demanding a ban on liquor in Tamil Nadu.

State BJP chief Tamilisai Soundararajan urged Chief Minister Jayalaithaa to ensure that all the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC), a company which has a monopoly over wholesale and retail vending of alcoholic beverages, shops are closed down.

She alleged that TASMAC is spoiling the younger generation of Tamil Nadu.

"This agitation is going on all over Tamil Nadu from Chennai to Kanyakumari, almost in-front of all mandal shops and all TASMAC shops this agitation is going on. The whole generation is spoiled. Men are drinking and women are suffering and we want the TASMAC shops to be closed immediately," she said.
