Chennai: To meet the growing demand for
veterinarians in Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK government will set up
a veterinary college in Thanjavur district at a cost of Rs
85.12 crore.
"An amount of Rs 16.34 crore has been allotted for the
purpose this year and 40 students will be admitted from next
year," an official statement here said.
The hospital, proposed to be built on 100.57 acres at
Orathanadu in Thanjavur district, will also be a research
centre which would address the needs of the Delta district
with respect to cattle population, it said.
Two veterinary colleges are presently functional in the
state but these were not enough to produce adequate number of
veterinarians, the release said.
