Went to hear Rahul Gandhi as we were promised free cot by Congress, says Mirzapur local — Watch

Mirzapur: Minutes after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's public meeting ended in Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, locals once again broke into fights over 'khats' and within seconds decamped with all the cots from the venue.

The locals were seen running away with cots from the venue despite announcements made by organisers, 'Khaat chodke chale jao'.

Notably, one of the locals expressed his displeasure about not being able to get any cot to take back home.

"A senior Congress leader promised that we would be given 'free' cot at the attend of the event to take back home if we attend Rahul Gandhi's public meet in Mirzapur today. However, I am very disappointed as nothing has been given to us by the party. Instead, I was only 'this'," one Kailash Nath Kesri told ANI while pointing towards the party flag he was holding.

Rahul Gandhi, who kickstarted the second leg of his Kisan Yatra from Mirzapur today, began with the 'Khat Sabha' at Madihan.

Gandhi would cover around 164 km today, spread across Mirzapur, Bhadohi and Allahabad districts, following a mix of Khat Sabhas and public meetings along the way.

In the first leg the Kisan Yatra beginning from Deoria on September 6 ended with a Khat Sabha in Ghazipur district on September 11 after crossing through Gorakhpur, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, and Mau districts.

Throughout his Khat Sabhas, Rahul targetted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on topics like 'PM's suit of Rs 15 lakh, foreign trips, selfie love and Modi's forgotten election promises'. Rahul also tried to convince the farmers that all their miseries would end only after revival of Congress regime at the Centre as well as in UP.

Gandhi is on a 2,500 km-long Kisan Yatra in a bid to capture power in the politically important state of Uttar Pradesh.
