Ghaziabad: Wife of Ashutosh Asthana, prime accused in PF scam worth Rupees 23 crore, who died in jail, has moved a CBI special court for bail contending that she is not an accused in the chargesheet filed by the agency on July 3.

Sushma Asthana, who has been in jail since April 2008, has stated in her application that since CBI has not named her as an accused in its chargesheet filed against 78 people nor
the probe agency intend to investigate matter further with her, so she should be released.

CBI special judge RK Singh has fixed July 17 as the next hearing date.

The CBI had on July 3 filed the chargesheet in the special court of A K Singh in Ghaziabad and named RP Yadav, RN Mishra and AK Singh, all former judges of Allahabad High court, and RP Mishra, RS Choubey and Arun Kumar, all former
district judges of Ghaziabad.

CBI claimed to have found that during the period 2001-08 the then bill clerk of the district Ashutosh Asthana (since dead), allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy
with six district Judges and 71 "fraudulently and dishonestly" withdrew Rs 6.58 crore from the District Treasury as GPF withdrawals.

The withdrawals were made allegedly by submitting fake and forged documents for withdrawing money in the name of GPF of Class-IV employees, the chargesheet said.
