Lucknow: Terming as unfortunate the Uttar
Pradesh government`s decision to rename Kanpur Dehat as
Ramabai Nagar and creating another district Chattrapati
Shahuji Maharaj Nagar, the Opposition SP today said the ruling
BSP is only projecting people of a particular section as
icons.
"This government has no work other than to install
stones, create new districts, to rename places and to project
people of a particular section as the only icons... The
Mayawati government is blatantly misusing and wasting public
fund and not a single penny is being spent on developmental
works," SP national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav told
reporters here.
"Kanpur Dehat district is known internationally and
renaming it unfortunate...There are several districts which
are hard to locate after being renamed. People know Haathras
district very well, but they are unaware with its new name
Mahamaya Nagar," he said.
"If the situation continues the same, there is no
surprise that Mayawati would name some district in her name in
time to come," he quipped.
On whether the SP would reverse the decision of the BSP
government if voted back to power, Yadav said, "The SP may
change the nomenclature if it gains power in the state."
