In a bid to check absenteeism among government employees, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has asked the IT department to develop a software which could help locate employees absent from duty.

Dehradun: In a bid to check absenteeism among government employees, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has asked the IT department to develop a software which could help locate employees absent from duty.

The Chief Minister has directed the Commissioners of Garhwal and Kumaon divisions to nominate officials who would conduct surprise inspections in their departments periodically and ensure the presence of employees in office during duty hours, an official release said here today.

Stern action must be taken against those found absent from duty during office hours, the chief minister was quoted as saying.

With complaints pouring in about officials posted outside Dehradun discharging their duties without leaving the city, the IT department has also been asked to develop a software which helps ascertain location of employees absent from duty, it said.

The Chief Secretary has been asked to start the drive from the top with immediate effect, it said.
