Kolkata: Describing as "unfortunate" the assault of Kalyani University officials allegedly by its students and employees, West Bengal Governor KN Tripathi on Wednesday said discipline should be mainted by everybody.

"Whatever is happening at Kalyani (University) is unfortunate. Everybody should maintain discipline," Tripathi told reporters here in his reaction to the incident which occurred at the university campus yesterday.

Asked whether he as Chancellor of the university would take any action in the matter, Triapthi said "I have asked the higher education minister to visit Kalyani (University)."

The estate officer and the admission committee chairperson of Kalyani University were assaulted yesterday allegedly by students and employees who were agitating to press their demand for resignation of the Vice-Chancellor Rattan Lal Hangloo.

Agitators claimed that the results of 10,000 undergraduate students of colleges affiliated to the university were declared as "incomplete" a month ago.

The VC has, however, rubbished their claims.
