Beijing, Jan 07: China has welcomed the decision by India and Pakistan to resume composite dialogue and take further measures to achieve détente in bilateral ties.

Beijing, Jan 07: China has welcomed the decision by India and Pakistan to resume composite dialogue and take further measures to achieve détente in bilateral ties.
"China welcomes and supports the bilateral talks between Pakistani and Indian leaders on the sidelines of the Saarc summit, which reiterates that the two countries would take further measures to achieve détente in their relations," Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing was quoted by the state media as saying.

He also hailed the successful outcome at the just concluded Saarc summit and congratulated his Pakistani counterpart Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri on the success of the 12th summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc), said the report today.

Li, who is in the Comoros on an official visit, sent the congratulations in a phone call to Kasuri, saying the important documents passed by the Saarc held in Islamabad has set the objectives of the regional grouping's development and would promote peace and development, which serves the interests of the South Asian people.

As a friendly neighbour of the region, China sincerely hopes South Asia will enjoy peace and
stability and will move toward prosperity, Li said.

He said China is willing to make joint efforts with all the South Asian countries to promote peace and development in the region.
