Beijing, Nov 05: China's ruling Communist Party today said it would amend its constitution at this week's key conclave which would also decide on the new leadership that would rule the country till 2007.
These decisions were taken at the seventh plenary session of the 15th central committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) which was held here from November three to five, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

"The plenum also discussed and approved a report which will be presented by the 15th CPC central committee to the 16th party congress, as well as an amendment to the
constitution of the Communist Party of China," it said.

Both documents will be submitted to the party congress for discussions, the plenum decided.

Though the report did not mention the nature of proposed amendment, diplomatic sources said it is aimed at enshrining President Jiang Zemin's theory of 'three representatives' which would make the party more relevant in today's China.
