Eleven killed, 35 injured in Vietnam factory blast

Three workers were fighting for their lives and eight
others were in a serious condition in Cho Ray Hospital, ‘Thanh Nien’ (the youth) newspaper said on today.

The Vietnam news agency yesterday reported that eight
people had been killed.

Ho Chi Minh city police declined further comment.

The explosion in the Go Dau district of Tay Ninh Province, northwest of Ho Chi Minh city, took place yesterday morning. The incident completely destroyed the drying factory of the long Tre Co, a Taiwanese-invested joint venture specialising in the production of bamboo and rattan articles for export.

According to Nhan Dan (the people), 47 workers were
located around the 12 metre long and 2.9 metre high bamboo dryer when it suddenly exploded.

Workers' salaries varied between $ 26 to $ 39.
According to Thanh Nien, the company did not have insurance for the workers.
