Geneva: A 61-year-old Korean woman fell to her death while hiking in the Swiss Alps this week, local police said Thursday.

The woman`s husband had alerted police on Tuesday that his wife had disappeared while hiking on Mount Rosa, which at 4,634 metres (15,203 feet) is the highest mountain in Switzerland and the second-highest in the Alps.

Police said they had found the woman`s body after launching a search around the picturesque trail between the Gorner glacier and the Mout Rosa cabin, near the foot of the mountain and not far from the famous Zermatt ski resort.

"She had fallen around 50 metres," police in the souther Swiss canton of Valais said in a statement.

It was unclear whether the woman was South or North Korean, police spokesman Christian Zuber told AFP.
