Mubarak, Abbas meet ahead of crucial Arab League meeting

Egyptian President Husni Mubarak met Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday and discussed with him the stalled Middle East peace process, hours ahead of a key meeting of Arab foreign ministers here.

Mubarak held summit talks with the visiting PA Chairman
this morning during which the two leaders dicussed the latest
developments surrounding the Palestine issue and efforts to
resume the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.

Palestine`s chief negotiator Sa`ib Urayqat, who recently
drafted a document threatening Palestine`s withdrawal from the
1993 Oslo Peace Accord, also attended the meeting along with
Fatah central committee member Azzam al-Ahmad and Palestinian
ambassador in Cairo Barakat al-Fara.

Palestinian President Abbas is attending a meeting of
Arab foreign ministers, members in the Arab peace initiative
follow up committee, to be held at the Arab League Head
Quarters today.
Mubarak also met Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu
in Sharm al-Sheikh and discuused with him the efforts to push
forward the Middle East peace process, and to unify the
Palestinian rank.

Negotiations between representatives of Israel and
Palestine have remained suspended since last year`s Gaza war,
with Abbas insisting on a complete halt to settlement
construction by Israel in occupied areas.
