Turkey opens probe into daily`s Charlie Hebdo edition: Reports

Ankara: Turkish prosecutors on Thursday opened an investigation into the edition published by daily newspaper Cumhuriyet featuring excerpts from the first Charlie Hebdo issue since the Paris attacks, media reports said.

The prosecutors were investigating Cumhuriyet on suspicion of "inciting public hatred", a day after it published the special edition from the French satirical weekly, prompting protests in Istanbul, the reports said.

It published a Charlie Hebdo pull-out translated into Turkish including cartoons satirising Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram and Islamic State (IS) jihadists.

The edition did not include the controversial front cover of the Prophet Mohammed that has angered Muslims but a smaller version of the cartoon was included twice inside the newspaper to illustrate columns on the subject.
