The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has released the Air Quality Index (AQI) of some major Indian cities.

New Delhi: Even as the national capital of India continued to grapple with high levels of air pollution, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on Friday released the Air Quality Index (AQI) of some major cities.

The following is the Air Quality Index of some cities as recorded by the CPCB at 4 pm on Thursday:

Bengaluru - Satisfactory - 59

Chandrapur - Moderate - 138

Delhi - Very Poor - 321

Faridabad - Very Poor - 318

Hyderabad - Satisfactory - 91

Jaipur - Good - 41

Jodhpur - Very Poor - 325

Lucknow - Severe - 408

Mumbai - Moderate - 126

Muzaffarpur - Very Poor - 322

Navi Mumbai - Moderate - 102

Pune - Poor - 211

Varanasi - Very Poor - 302

The scale to determine the air quality through the Air Quality Index is as follows:

0-50 Good Minimal impact

51-100 Satisfactory Minor breathing discomfort to sensitive people

101-200 Moderate Breathing discomfort to the people with asthma and heart diseases

201-300 Poor Breathing discomfort to most people on prolonged exposure

301-400 Very Poor Respiratory illness on prolonged exposure

401-500 Severe Seriously impacts those with existing diseases

With air pollution in Delhi reaching 'hazardous levels' posing serious threats to residents' health and in a radical step to combat it, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government Friday restricted plying of private vehicles bearing odd and even registration numbers to alternate days from January 1, 2016, in the national capital.
