Australian bowlers need to step up to stay alive in Cape Town Test: Clarke

Cape Town: Australian captain Michael Clarke has said that the team’s bowlers need to hit the right areas and the fielders need to hang on to the catches to stay alive in the first Test against South Africa at Cape Town.

Australia is currently in a precarious position at 214-8 after the first day’s play at Newlands. “I thought there was a bit in the wicket. I had a fair bit of luck, I played and missed at a few, ducked and weaved a few early on. But it was special to be able to contribute and hopefully we can get a few more tomorrow and then we are going to have to bowl well,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Clarke, as saying. “After being sent in, I would have liked 300, but ... If we can scratch 250 plus we have done a pretty good job. I think we are in the ball game. We have got to hit the right areas with the ball and hang on to our catches. I’m not too disappointed with how we’ve gone,” he added. Clarke further said that his unbeaten 107 from 114 balls innings was ‘very special’ as the team was under pressure when he went out to bat. “It’s always nice to step up and lead from the front after a tough day when we were sent in,” he said.
