India, Proteas reveal plans for fourth day of second Test as rain curtails third day

Johannesburg: South African batsman Alviro Petersen has revealed that his side is planning to bat past India to put them under pressure and see how big a lead they can get, with the less-than-enough time left at their hands.

For the third successive day, bad light and rain curtailed the hours of play affecting South Africa`s charge for victory in the second Test against India in Durban on Saturday. According to Sport24, Petersen also said that ideally, with the wicket turning, they do not want to be the team batting last on the pitch, adding that it would also help their side if they manage to bat as long as possible on Sunday. The report mentioned that South Africa had reached 299/5, 35 runs behind India`s first innings total, with just two days left in the match, with rain stopping play after tea as the heavy clouds gathered and the light began to deteriorate. Meanwhile, India`s top wicket-taker in the match, Ravindra Jadeja said his team would look to get South Africa out early on day four as the hosts are batting well, adding that India needs to chase the game in the second innings so that they can put a good total on the board. Jacques Kallis was not out on 78 and nightwatchman Dale Steyn yet to score, and earlier India had hit back claiming three wickets in the morning session after South Africa resumed on 82 for no loss, the report added.
