Kolkata, July 13: Actor Rajit Kapur is all excited to appear in Buddhadev Dasgupta`s next film after bagging a national award for his role in Dasgupta`s `Charachar`. The film, the shooting for which would begin in September, will have Kapur essaying the role of a middle-aged man who bogged down in his daily routine, shares his ideas and views with a young pen-friend.
However, the man refuses to meet his pen-friend despite her persistent request. The story then flits between reality and fantasy. Dasgupta told reporters that Rajit Kapur perfectly suits the character of a lonely, middle-aged, office-goer who is tired and suffocated in his ordinary world, but have the angst to let out his bottled up feelings. In his last film too, the director dealt with interplay of the real and the fantasy. As for the young girl`s role in the film `Rahasyamoy`, Dasgupta is on the look-out for a fresh young face. The prolific director, who proceeds to self-imposed exile each time in order to write a script, is ready with `Rahasyamoy` that is loosely based on a novel he had written and developed 10 years ago from a story published in the Ananda Bazar Patrika. While `Rahasyamoy` will be shot September onwards, Dasgupta`s Janala`, the earlier film, will be screened in the Masters section at the 34th Toronto International Film Festival during the same month. Asked why he opted for pen-friendship instead of social networking sites as the medium of communication in sync with the modern times, Dasgupta said, "I have thought about that. But I think pen-friendship is still very much there. It has certain flavour and people can still be pen-friends through clubs." Elabourating on his future projects, he said he has thought of a subject dealing with the same relationship -- this time between a middle-aged NRI woman, who has returned from abroad after 20 years and her niece, who is in her twenties and lives alone. "I will take this up at a later stage after finding a suitable producer," Dasgupta said. Bureau Report
