No foreign coach for Pakistan cricket team: PCB

PCB coaching committee on Sunday made it clear that no foreigner was being considered for the position of head coach of the national team.

Karachi: PCB coaching committee on Sunday made it clear that no foreigner was being considered for the position of head coach of the national team.
Former captains, Intikhab Alam, Javed Miandad and Wasim Akram, who are all members of the committee said at a press conference in Lahore that they had received a total of 25 applications for the coaching positions.
"We have received a total of 25 applications for the posts of head coach, fielding coach and batting coach and we have shortlisted some candidates and none of them is foreigners," Alam said. Akram said that while in the past the PCB had appointed foreigners as head coach but the time has come to give more exposure to local coaches. "Our own players are very capable of doing a good job and managing the team so this time we are looking at no foreign candidates," he said. Alam said the coaching committee was evaluating the shortlisted candidates and would recommend the final names on Monday to the PCB Chairman for approval. Former Test captains, Waqar Younis and Moin Khan who have applied for the head coach position are said to be the strongest candidates for the post and sources said Akram was in favor of appointing Moin. Akram has also recommended to the Board to appoint the head coach for a short-term period for the time being for the Asia Cup and World T20 Cup in Bangladesh. The Board sought applications after Australian Dav Whatmore did not extend his contract with the PCB while fielding coach Julian Fountain has also left.
