Not for childhood friend but this is why Mahendra Singh Dhoni collects stumps!

New Delhi: India's limited-overs skipper MS Dhoni is often seen collecting a stump after every Team India win

Irrespective of the opposition or tournament, the skipper never fails to complete this ritual.

Many have often speculated as to why the 35-year-old does so.

One of the theories states that Mahi collects match-day stumps for his childhood friend .

Kulbinder, a Nepali watchman’s son, was not only his best friend growing up but also the person who encouraged him to take up cricket.

While the wicketkeeper-batsman become a cricketing superstar, Kulbinder's stars didn't shine as brightly.

Even when Kulbinder built a small house, he did not take any financial help from Dhoni.

However, there is one thing he expected from Mahi and that is 320 cricket stumps to make a fence around his house.

Hence, Dhoni promptly collects stumps to hand it over to his dear friend.

Mahi however offered a different response to BCCI.tv when asked about the same few months back.

"That’s my retirement plan. The good thing is that I do collect a lot of stumps but the bad one is I don’t put a mark as to which match they were from. So, after I retire I’ll watch the videos of all my matches, look closely at the sponsors logos on the stumps and figure out which match a stump belongs to. It will be my post-cricket pass time!” he said.
